About Vidos island. Located with lush vegetation just opposite the old town of Corfu (a 10 minute boat ride). Vidos is an evergreen islet that measures to 530 stremma and is situated just a mile off of the historic old town of Corfu. The island remains to date a natural haven as its unspoilt natural beauty has been sustained by the abstinence of major human interventions and lack of vehicles. It is a sanctuary for many different types of flora and fauna and from the north side of the island, if luck is with you, a chance to see passing by dolphins. Footpaths to explore, emerald green sea to swim in and a camp site await you.
O.S.C.S. (organisation for social and civil stimulation) together with the support of the local Corfu munincipality came together to create and organise the first Vida Laska festival. The aim was to promote and encourage the co existence and merging of different art forms on the islet of Vidos, having as our foundation environmental and socio-political awareness.
Connecting the past with the present. The island of Vidos has a rich socio-political history which in itself encourages us to tint the character of Vida Laska with such a stance. During its history the island has hosted a juvenile detention centre, and prisons for political detainees during the civil war.
Bridging the past with the present the festivals social focus was raising awareness on living conditions within prisons and detention centres in general. This was explored through different art exhibitions and installations during the festival.
